In the middle of August it’s a tradition to eat crayfish in Sweden. The Swedes invite friends to their homes and they enjoy this traditional meal together. In the old days people used to fish their own crayfishes and then they prepared them by boiling them in very salty water with a lot of dill. Today most people buy their crayfish at the supermarket, already boiled. No preparation needed There are many traditions that come along with eating crayfish. For example the way you dress at a crayfish party. Everybody is supposed to wear small paper hats and big colorful bibs made of paper. Another tradition concerns the decoration of the dining room. The room is typically decorated with paper moons, garlands and lanterns in bright colors. And finally you sing typical Swedish songs while enjoying the crayfish.
